Six Aims

We focus on the Six Aims (IOM, 2001) and promote the following goals of patient care:

Patient Centered
The decisions and choices that are made about the type of dialysis, or whether or not to seek a kidney transplant, or to initiate or discontinue dialysis, must involve input from the patient.

Effective
Dialysis treatments must be performed in such a way that adequate dialysis is provided.

Safe
Patient safety is a top concern. The Network helps dialysis facilities to plan for disasters and to keep patients safe while they are in the facility under normal conditions.

Efficient
The Network provides resources for dialysis facilities that will improve the quality of care that they provide to the patients.

Equity
Each patient is treated equally.

Timeliness
Practice patterns are monitored to ensure that renal replacement therapy is not initiated too soon.
